Poetry Appreciation

We meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month at St. Cuthbert's Church Centre, Fulwood from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.

Group members can contact group leader Cheryl Donbavand via Beacon, where all methods of contact are listed.

We explore all kinds of poetry: old, modern, serious, funny. The emphasis is on enjoyment rather than knowledge and expertise.

Each month has a topic (for example "Love", "Relationships", "Journeys") or perhaps a particular poet. Members bring a poem on the chosen theme and we read them in turn to the group. We often share our thoughts on the poems but stop short of formal literary criticism. Sometimes one of our members will lead the group with a presentation of poetry on their chosen topic.

If you have not read poetry recently then this group may offer an opportunity to re-connect with the subject. Researching

a poem to bring to the meeting - there are thousands on the internet - can take you in many directions, and this is part of the fun.
